About the Organizers

The Alexander Technological Institute of Thessaloniki, was founded in 1983, and has 6 Schools and 19 Departments with a student population exceeding 20000 (undergraduate and postgraduate). The Institute emphasizes the development and promotion of new disciplines and innovative curricula that adhere to the needs of the contemporary society in Greece and the requirements of the global community. The Department of Tourism Management over 600 students and provides a fine blend of academic and professional education, with a long-established international character and focus. The Democritus University of Thrace was established in July 1973. It was named after the ancient Greek philosopher Demokritos who was born in Avdira, Thrace. The University is organized in two Faculties and eighteen Departments located in four cities of Thrace; a total of almost 16.000 undergraduate students are enrolled. The University plays an important and effective role in establishing the national and cultural significance of Thrace and through the quality of teaching and the level of research, it has achieved a distinctive place among the leading Universities in Greece. TheWashington State University is among the nation's top 60 public research universities, according to the U.S. News and World Report 2011 rankings. The University conducts transformational research and provides world-class education to more than 26,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Founded in 1890 in Pullman, it is Washington’s original land-grant university. Academic programs at WSU span more than 200 fields within twelve colleges. Many programs have won noteworthy recognition for excellence. The School of Hospitality Business Management offers business education with expert instruction in the fields of hospitality and wine business management. The School is consistently rated in the top 5 percent of the 170 similar programs in the nation. The program started in 1932, making it the third oldest program of its kind in the country. The Research Institute for Tourism is a non-profit organization founded in July 1996 with the initiative of the Hellenic Chamber of Hoteliers and of other tourism stakeholders, with the main objective to study the tourism sector in Greece and other competitive countries. More specifically it aims to: a) Carry out scientific studies referring to Greek tourist economy and the Greek economy, and to formulate suggestions and solutions that could help the development of the Greek tourist sector and the Greek economy; b) Monitor the national and international economic developments and examine the possible effects they would have on the tourist sector; c) Perform feasibility studies for tourism  enterprises; d) Advise state bodies on matters related to the tourism sector; e) Act as the scientific and research branch of the Greek Chamber of Hoteliers.
